Sportsbooks do not necessarily try to get equal action on both sides. Instead, they often set lines based on sharp bettors' action. Sharp bettors are the ones who can influence the line with their knowledge and betting patterns. Some sportsbooks take action from sharp bettors, while others follow the lines set by sharp sportsbooks.
